Beijing Airlink Aircraft Unveils Scale Models of Belyn 100 Series, Billed as China's First Home-Grown New-Energy Business Jet

Why It MattersA start-up showing only scale models of hybrid-electric business jets signals how early China's domestic push into the segment remains, with propulsion architecture still being chosen before any certified airframe exists.

What happened

Beijing Airlink Aircraft, a Chinese private aircraft manufacturer founded in March, says it is developing what it describes as the country's first home-grown new-energy business jet. The company showed scale models of two variants of its Belyn 100 series at the Nanchang Aviation Industry Expo on Saturday.

One variant is planned to use a parallel hybrid system and the other a series hybrid system, according to the company. Beijing Airlink Aircraft said its core team was drawn mainly from Tsinghua University's school of aerospace engineering and China's aviation industry.

Industry impact & what to watch

Pairing a parallel hybrid layout with a series hybrid layout across two variants of one family suggests the company has not settled on a single propulsion architecture. In a parallel hybrid, the engine and electric motor can both drive the propulsor; in a series hybrid, the engine acts as a generator feeding electric drive. Each trades weight, complexity and range differently, which is why developers often keep both options open at the concept stage.

A business jet programme shown at scale-model stage sits well ahead of anything that can be flown, certified or sold. For the segment, the more telling signals will be the milestones the company itself puts out next: a full-size demonstrator, a named powertrain supplier, or a certification pathway announced by the manufacturer.
