What happened

Gastops, a provider of intelligent condition monitoring solutions, and Bell Textron Inc. signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore opportunities for future collaboration related to Bell's industrial participation activities in Canada. The signing was announced at the Canadian Aerospace Summit 2026 in Ottawa on Oct. 30, 2026.

The MOU sets up a framework for discussions focused on in-service support solutions, capability expansion, and the application of advanced drivetrain health monitoring technologies for current and future Bell aircraft programs.

Shaun Horning, President & CEO of Gastops, said the company is pleased to explore opportunities with Bell that leverage the two organizations' combined expertise and support the long-term success of aerospace programs and operators. Jeffrey Schloesser, Senior Vice President, Strategic Pursuits at Bell, said the collaboration would support Bell programs, strengthen its Canadian industrial participation and create long-term value for customers and operators. Daniel Obedi, Vice President, Aerospace Platforms at Gastops, also commented on the opportunity the MOU creates to explore how advanced health monitoring can be applied.

Bell has over 90 years of aerospace leadership and aircraft manufacturing expertise and is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, serving military, commercial, public safety and industrial customers worldwide. Gastops brings more than 45 years of experience in condition monitoring, diagnostics, prognostics and equipment health intelligence.

Industry impact & what to watch

An MOU of this kind commits neither side to a contract. It is a structured way to open talks, and in the helicopter and vertical-lift segment such documents often precede work-share or support arrangements that let an OEM show local participation while a specialist supplier gains access to a platform's installed base.

Drivetrain health monitoring matters in this segment because gearbox and driveline condition is a core input to maintenance planning and availability. A supplier whose diagnostics and prognostics are integrated into an OEM's in-service support offering sits close to the recurring, post-delivery part of the business, which is where operators feel the value most directly.

The next meaningful signal would be a definitive agreement that names a specific Bell program, scope of work and timeline; until then, the MOU marks intent and a framework for discussions.
