Airways International Signs Contract to Supply TotalControl ATC Simulator to Zambia Airports Corporation

Why It MattersProcurement of a full-scenario simulator by an African airports operator shows air navigation providers investing in in-country controller training capacity, a supply-side bottleneck for regional traffic growth.

Airways International has signed a contract with Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) for the supply, installation and commissioning of an air traffic control (ATC) simulator for use by Zambian air traffic controllers. The TotalControl simulator will be installed at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) and will include two controller working positions, two pseudo pilot positions and an instructor position. The system will imitate the full air traffic control flight information region (FIR) scenario and is intended to improve the quality and speed of ATC training.

ZACL CEO Urvesh Desai said the corporation was delighted to choose Airways International and thanked CANSO for providing a platform that helps Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) like ZACL engage with reliable Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to procure solutions at economical values. He said the solution should enhance training capabilities, lower training costs and raise ATC trainee success rates. Airways International's GM Commercial James Evans said TotalControl will give ZACL a highly realistic and easy-to-use simulation environment to develop the next generation of controllers.

Airways International describes TotalControl as one of the most realistic and flexible simulation platforms on the global market, featuring real-world tower graphics that use terrain mapping data, photo-realistic 3D rendered models and True View technology.
