Avsurance Marks 35 Years of Aviation Insurance, Highlighting Cyber, Environmental and Part 91 Bundle Coverage
Why It MattersCyber and environmental liability sitting alongside traditional hull and liability cover shows aviation insurers widening into operational-technology and fuel-handling risks that smaller flight departments and FBOs now carry.
Avsurance, the aviation insurance agency founded in 1991 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Avfuel Corporation, is marking 35 years of serving aircraft owners and aviation businesses. Jim Coleman, vice president of Avsurance, said the milestone is a tribute to clients, carrier partners and the team, noting that many relationships span decades.

The agency serves aircraft owners, corporate flight departments, FBOs, airports, charter operators, flight schools and other aviation businesses. Beyond aircraft, property and liability insurance, its portfolio includes cyber coverage for risks to systems used for scheduling, payments, maintenance records and customer information; environmental liability coverage for fuel storage and handling risks; and crime, directors and officers, and employment practices liability coverage. It also offers a Part 91 insurance bundle developed for smaller flight departments, addressing needs such as workers' compensation minimums, contractor coverage and garagekeepers liability.
The agency says its work extends beyond placing policies: it helps clients review exposures early, organize training and safety records, explain corrective actions after a loss and present underwriters with a clear picture of their operations, as well as examine where policies may leave gaps, including how coverage would respond if a cyber incident interrupted daily operations. Coleman said an aircraft owner and an FBO have very different exposures, and that understanding how each client operates guides the agency's approach. Attendees at NBAA-BACE can meet Coleman and Nic Iagulli, senior account executive at Avsurance, at Avfuel booth number 3445.
