Traffic restrictions, airspace limitations and a maritime exclusion zone are in place in County Wicklow, Ireland, as European Union defence and foreign ministers hold informal meetings at Druids Glen from 31 August to 2 September. Ireland is hosting the gathering while holding the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union.
An Garda Síochána said it is facilitating access for local residents and businesses and has been in contact with affected premises, with limited garda motorcycle rolling road closures possible to support security escorts. Gardaí asked the public to follow instructions when encountering closures, describing the operation as "proportionate to protect everyone's safety".
Airspace restrictions, including limitations on drone flights, are in effect, with details for drone pilots published on the Irish Aviation Authority website. A temporary maritime exclusion zone and an associated outer control area have also been established in waters off the Wicklow coast, and a garda spokesperson confirmed that Dublin Airport operations will not be disrupted as ministerial delegations arrive on 31 August and 1 September.
The agenda is expected to include the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the US military campaign against Iran following Iranian strikes on US military targets in the Middle East, Israeli settler attacks against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, and search-and-rescue efforts in Nepal and Tibet, where over 900 people have been killed and 4,700 are missing, with the European Commission committing €2 million in humanitarian aid for Nepal.
