Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport to Suspend Commercial Flights for One Week Beginning Sept. 12, 2026
Why It MattersRunway extension projects at regional airports can temporarily halt commercial operations, underscoring how infrastructure upgrades disrupt scheduled air service even at smaller hubs.
Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport (AZO) will suspend all commercial air service for one week beginning at 12 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, with flights scheduled to resume on Sept. 19, 2026. The suspension is required to carry out critical pavement, lighting, and airfield work associated with a 450-foot extension of Runway 17-35, a project designed to give pilots additional operational distance and improve safety margins.

The airport will remain open during the closure for rental car access and other customer needs. Passengers with travel scheduled during the suspension period are advised to contact their airline directly regarding their itinerary.
