Eagle County–Miami Tops US Domestic City-Pair Fares in Q1 2026 at $576 Average
Why It MattersPricing at the top of the US domestic market reflects thin, resort-driven demand and limited seat supply rather than distance, so small mountain airports dominate the highest-fare city pairs.
What happened
Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) in Colorado to Miami International Airport (MIA) was the most expensive US domestic city-pair route in the first quarter of 2026, with an average fare of $576. The ranking comes from The Motley Fool's analysis of federal airfare data.
The three leading routes carry average fares of $565 to $576, and all three are mountain-resort markets. EGE serves Vail and other Colorado mountain destinations. Aspen (ASE) provides access to a well-known luxury ski resort, and Jackson Hole (JAC) is the third resort market on the list.
The ranking shows that the costliest domestic flights do not necessarily connect the country's farthest points.
Industry impact & what to watch
A top-fare list dominated by resort airports points to a pricing logic built on destination demand and constrained access, not on stage length. Seasonal, high-income leisure travel into small airports supports fares that long coast-to-coast routes do not reach.
For airlines and charter providers, this segment shows where willingness to pay is highest in scheduled domestic travel. It is also the segment where premium alternatives such as private and fractional flying compete most directly against airline fares, since the gap between a scheduled ticket and a chartered seat narrows on these routes.
The next quarterly fare release will show whether these three resort pairs hold their positions or whether seasonal shifts reorder the list.
