Rolls-Royce Begins Serial Production of Pearl 10X Engine for Dassault Falcon 10X

Why It MattersSeries production of the most powerful business-aviation engine Rolls-Royce has built removes a key supply dependency for Dassault's ultra-long-range jet and widens the Pearl family's reach in the large-cabin segment.

Rolls-Royce has started serial production of its Pearl 10X engine, the powerplant selected for Dassault Aviation's forthcoming Falcon 10X ultra-long-range business jet. The Pearl 10X is the latest and most powerful member of the Pearl family, which already powers the Bombardier Global 5500, 6500, 7500 and 8000, as well as the Gulfstream G700 and G800. It delivers more than 18,000lb of thrust, the most Rolls-Royce has developed for business aviation, and is cleared to run on 100% sustainable aviation fuel.

The engine uses the Advance2 core, which Rolls-Royce describes as the most efficient in its thrust class, with a 10-stage high-pressure compressor, a two-stage high-pressure turbine, a five-stage low-pressure turbine and a blisked low-pressure compressor. An enlarged fan is intended to improve propulsive efficiency over earlier Pearl variants. The program is progressing toward type certification, and the EASA submission rests on several thousand hours of testing, including flight tests on a Boeing 747 testbed in Tucson, Arizona, and ground tests such as endurance runs, icing and crosswind evaluations in Germany and elsewhere.

Dassault chose the Pearl 10X in May 2021 as the exclusive engine for the Falcon 10X, a twin-engine jet aimed at a range of about 7,500nm at Mach 0.85, a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.925 and the largest cabin cross-section in business aviation. Entry into service is publicly targeted for 2027, after earlier schedule adjustments. Rolls-Royce says it has delivered more than 1,000 Pearl engines across the three variants in service, supported by the CorporateCare Enhanced program and in-flight engine health monitoring.
