SkyMark and Rampmaster Launch Jointly Built 5,000-Gallon Aircraft Refueler
Why It MattersPooling two refueler lines under common ownership shows ground-fuelling equipment consolidating around shared platforms, common-use parts and fewer manufacturing footprints, which concentrates supplier choice for FBOs and fuel providers.
What happened
SkyMark Companies, a manufacturer of aircraft refueling trucks and hydrant dispensers, and Rampmaster, a manufacturer of aircraft refueling solutions for the commercial and general aviation markets, have launched a new aviation refueler that combines technology, intellectual property and engineering expertise from both companies. The 5,000-gallon refueler platform is being shown at the NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition in Booth #3225.

It is the first model in a new generation of refuelers that the two companies will manufacture jointly, starting in the first quarter of next year. The refueler was engineered from the ground up, with the pumping architecture, electrical components and programming logic integrated into one system. Its redesigned operator control panel uses a fully digital interface intended to simplify operation, diagnostics, support and maintenance.
The vehicle uses Rampmaster's Engine Management System (EMS), certified by the Center for Alternative Fuels Engines & Emissions (CAFEE). The system is stated to save as much as 43% on fuel, 63% on emissions and 46% on engine wear because of its very low engine RPM.
Steven Paul, Chief Executive Officer of SkyMark Companies, said the collaboration draws on half a century of combined industry expertise. Owen Watkins, Chief Operating Officer of Rampmaster, said the refueler incorporates the strongest product differentiators from both brands.
Ownership and production footprint
The launch follows ATL Partners' acquisition of SkyMark Companies and Rampmaster, which created one of the world's largest providers of aviation solutions, refueling equipment and ground support equipment. In less than a year, the companies report expanded production capabilities across five manufacturing locations, Lean Manufacturing initiatives, combined supplier relationships and standardized common-use parts.
SkyMark Companies, founded in 2013 and headquartered in Kansas City, also serves the liquid waste, rail maintenance and bulk fuel transport markets. Rampmaster builds aircraft refuelers from 3,000 to 17,500 gallons, as well as fully electric 5,000-gallon and 9,000-gallon refuelers.
Industry impact & what to watch
A jointly built platform from two brands that were separate until recently is a concrete result of the ATL Partners combination. Standardized common-use parts, combined supplier relationships and a shared pumping and electrical architecture are the levers that let a manufacturer cut variants and simplify service. For FBOs and fuel providers, that tends to mean fewer distinct refueler designs competing for the same ramp budget, with support and parts increasingly tied to one larger supplier.
The digital operator interface and the CAFEE-certified low-RPM engine management system point to where refueler specifications are heading: diagnostics, maintenance and emissions performance sit alongside tank capacity as selling points. The fuel, emissions and engine-wear savings are the manufacturers' own stated figures, so their weight in purchasing decisions depends on how they hold up in daily ramp use.
The next dated milestone is the first quarter of next year, when joint manufacturing of the new generation is due to begin.
