W Aviation signs 30-year lease at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, plans two new hangars
Why It MattersWhere developable land is scarce, a long-term ground lease lets an FBO add large-aircraft hangar capacity by redesigning its existing footprint, tying expansion to leasehold security rather than new acreage.
What happened
W Aviation has signed a new 30-year lease at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (KFXE), securing more than 13 acres. The lease enables a significant expansion of the company's facilities at the airport.

The planned expansion includes two new 20,000 sq ft (1,858 sq m) high-tail hangars engineered for large-cabin and ultra-long-range business jets, nearly three additional acres of ramp space and enhanced airside infrastructure. W Aviation is redesigning its existing leasehold to create the additional capacity.
W Aviation currently operates an executive terminal of more than 20,000 sq ft and five aircraft hangars at KFXE. The FBO is a member of the AEG Connect network. CEO Ignacio Martinez said the lease reflects the company's confidence in the future of Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport and the South Florida business aviation market, and that the additions will position W Aviation to better serve current customers while welcoming the next generation of business aviation aircraft and operators.
Industry impact & what to watch
At airports where available land for new aviation development is limited, as at KFXE, growth for an FBO tends to come from the ground it already controls. A 30-year term gives the tenant the horizon to commit capital to hangars and ramp, and redesigning an existing leasehold is a way to add capacity without waiting for new parcels to open.
The choice of high-tail hangars sized for large-cabin and ultra-long-range jets shows where the operator expects demand. Aircraft in that class need tall, deep covered space, and hangar and ramp availability is a practical constraint on whether such aircraft can be based or hosted at a field. Operators and brokers placing larger jets in South Florida should check hangar dimensions, ramp capacity and airside access together rather than any one of them alone.
The next milestones are construction and the opening of the two hangars and the additional ramp, which will show how much large-aircraft capacity W Aviation can offer at KFXE.
