Tropic Ocean Airways to Launch Fort Lauderdale–Key West Scheduled Flights on November 27, 2026, with Fares from $199

Why It MattersScheduled service built on FBO-based private-terminal access, rather than commercial gateways, shows how smaller carriers can add regional routes without competing for airline terminal capacity.

What happened

Tropic Ocean Airways will launch scheduled flights between Fort Lauderdale and Key West on November 27, 2026, with one-way fares starting at $199 per person. The roughly one-hour flights will run Thursday through Sunday, departing from Tropic Ocean Airways at Sheltair Aviation at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and arriving at Signature Aviation at Key West International Airport (EYW), bypassing commercial terminals at both ends.

Before scheduled service begins, the airline will operate preview flights during Fantasy Fest weekends on October 16-18 and October 23-25, 2026. Passengers check in 30 minutes before departure, and every seat includes a baggage allowance, complimentary valet and multi-day parking at Fort Lauderdale, and access to a private lobby with Wi-Fi, snacks and beverages. The service is pet-friendly.

The airline is also introducing a same-day "Keys in a Day" round-trip priced at $500 per person, providing approximately eight hours in Key West before returning to Fort Lauderdale the same day, with the round-trip flight, valet parking and private lobby access included. Separately, Tropic Ocean Airways is introducing private charter water landings at The Perry Marina on Stock Island, Key West, and is working with Integra Investments to build a dedicated seaplane dock there; until it is complete, private charter guests arriving by seaplane will be transferred to the marina by boat. No completion date or charter pricing has been announced.

Founded in 2009, Tropic Ocean Airways describes itself as the world's largest commercial amphibious airline, operating every flight with two pilots and holding an ARGUS Gold safety rating. The new Key West route expands the airline's network of scheduled and private charter flights across Florida and The Bahamas.

Industry impact & what to watch

This launch belongs to a broader push by small regional and amphibious carriers to carve out point-to-point service between leisure markets that commercial airlines serve indirectly or with limited frequency. Routing through FBOs like Sheltair and Signature Aviation rather than commercial terminals lets an operator of this size skip gate and terminal competition entirely, trading airline-scale infrastructure for a faster, more private passenger experience that can justify fares above typical regional airline pricing.

The preview flights timed to Fantasy Fest weekends function as a demand test ahead of the scheduled launch, giving the airline real passenger data before committing to a four-day weekly schedule. The seaplane dock project with Integra Investments signals an intent to extend beyond scheduled service into a differentiated charter product, though with no completion date or pricing attached, that piece remains a future add-on rather than part of the current offering.

What happens at the Perry Marina dock, and whether the Thursday-through-Sunday schedule holds or expands once the November 27 launch is underway, will show whether this route sustains itself past the Fantasy Fest preview window.
