Pilot John International Opens ISO/IEC 17025-Accredited Calibration Lab in Greenville, NC

Why It MattersLocalized, accredited calibration capacity shortens the logistics chain for MROs and manufacturers that otherwise depend on sending instruments to distant labs for compliance sign-off.

What happened

Pilot John International (PJi) has opened a dedicated Calibration Lab in Greenville, North Carolina, providing ISO/IEC 17025-accredited calibration services for electronic, mechanical, pressure, force, and temperature instruments. The facility is positioned as a local alternative to providers in Raleigh and Wilson, serving customers across aviation, manufacturing, energy, medical, education, and other sectors.

Calibration capabilities include torque wrenches up to 500 lbf, pressure gauges up to 10,000 psi, multimeters, oscilloscopes, micrometers, calipers, aircraft and floor scales, load cells, avionics testers, hydraulic power units, tensiometers, and thermocouples, among other instruments. "We're excited to open our Calibration Lab to help our customers maintain the accuracy and compliance their operations demand," said John Werner, President and CEO of Pilot John International. "Whether you're in the hangar, on the manufacturing floor, or in a service bay, our lab is ready to support you with fast turnaround and ISO-compliant service."

Customers may ship instruments to the lab using prepaid shipping labels with round-trip tracking, drop equipment off locally in Greenville, or access an online certificate dashboard. Mobile calibration services for on-site needs are expected to roll out soon. Industries served include maintenance and repair operations (MROs), industrial manufacturing, energy and utility providers, fleet and municipal operations, medical and laboratory environments, technical schools, and military and government contractors. PJi, which has served the aviation industry for more than 20 years, also accepts requests for quote (RFQ) for unique or complex calibration requirements.

Industry impact & what to watch

Accredited calibration sits on the compliance backbone of maintenance operations: torque wrenches, pressure gauges, scales, and avionics testers all need traceable certification before an MRO or manufacturing floor can sign off on work performed with them. A new accredited lab in a region previously served from Raleigh or Wilson changes the logistics calculation for nearby operators, cutting the distance equipment has to travel and the turnaround time before it comes back in service.

This segment works on proximity and accreditation scope as much as price — a facility's value depends on which instrument categories it covers under ISO/IEC 17025 and how quickly it can turn a shipped or dropped-off unit around, since idle calibrated equipment is downtime for the customer. The addition of an online certificate dashboard and prepaid round-trip shipping points to calibration providers competing increasingly on convenience and visibility into certification status, not just technical capability.

What remains to be seen is how the promised mobile calibration service materializes, since on-site calibration would further reduce the need for customers to ship or transport instruments at all. Customers with unique or complex calibration needs can also test the lab's RFQ process to see how far its accreditation scope extends beyond the listed instrument categories.
