Joby Aviation Launches eIPP Flight Campaign Across Dallas-Fort Worth as Part of 2026 Electric Skies Tour

Joby Aviation has launched a week-long eVTOL flight campaign across the Dallas-Fort Worth region, flying real-world routes that include direct flights into Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and missions between Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport and key urban locations. The campaign runs under the Texas Department of Transportation's Project Nexus proposal, part of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Electric Infrastructure Pilot Program announced in March 2026, and is meant to generate operational data the FAA needs to build safety rules for commercial electric air taxi service. Joby has leased a 45,000-square-foot facility at Perot Field within the AllianceTexas Mobility Innovation Zone to support the campaign and longer-term regional operations.
The North Texas flights follow earlier demonstrations in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City, and build on a 2023 high-fidelity simulation Joby ran jointly with NASA at the Future Flight Central facility at NASA's Ames Research Center, which examined operating up to 50 electric air taxi operations per hour at the DFW terminal area. The campaign is part of Joby's 2026 Electric Skies Tour, marking the United States' 250th anniversary, which also features J208, a Cessna 208B Caravan fitted with Joby's autonomous flight technology under the Joby Autonomy program; J208 began coast-to-coast demonstrations on September 8 in Concord, California, and is scheduled to stop at Alliance Airport on September 10.
Joby is currently in the fifth and final stage of FAA type certification and is testing its conforming aircraft for Type Inspection Authorization. Founder and CEO JoeBen Bevirt said he is excited by the potential for vertical lift in Texas, calling the campaign the beginning of what Texas and Joby can build together. FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said the agency is using data from test flights in Texas and elsewhere to ensure the new aircraft integrate safely into the airspace, while U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy called the flights a critical step in reshaping how people and products move.
