FAA Proposes AD for Tecnam P2006T Over Non-Conforming Engine Shock Mounts

Why It MattersThe proposal shows regulators acting on a single defective parts batch in the light twin segment, shifting inspection and replacement costs onto P2006T owners and operators unless warranty coverage applies.

The FAA has issued a notice of proposed rulemaking for a new airworthiness directive covering all Costruzioni Aeronautiche Tecnam S.P.A. Model P2006T airplanes, certificated in any category. The proposal was prompted by a report of damage to the engine mount structure caused by defective, non-conforming engine shock mounts having been installed. The affected part is the engine shock mount with part number CONO21-BS and batch number 49-24 or 11-25. The FAA states that, if not addressed, the condition could result in the engine disconnecting from the airplane structure.

The proposed AD would require inspecting for the installation of non-conforming engine shock mounts and replacing any such mount with an approved part. It also includes a detailed visual inspection of each engine-mount tubular structure associated with any engine on which a non-conforming shock mount is found, and it would prohibit installing a non-conforming engine shock mount on any airplane. The proposal follows EASA AD 2026-0071, dated March 31, 2026, which covers the P2006T and P2006T NG; the FAA proposal does not cover the P2006T NG, which has no FAA type certificate.

The FAA estimates the proposed AD would affect 131 airplanes of U.S. registry. Replacing shock mounts (4 per engine) is estimated at 2 work-hours at $85 per hour ($170 labor) plus $520 in parts, or $690 per engine. Replacing the engine mounts is estimated at 8 work-hours ($680 labor) plus $2,980 in parts, or $3,660 per engine. The FAA has no way of determining how many airplanes may need replacements, and the manufacturer says some costs may be covered under warranty.

The NPRM is scheduled to be published in the Federal Register on 2026-11-05 under docket number FAA-2026-13799 (project identifier MCAI-2026-00336-A). Comments may be submitted through the Federal eRulemaking Portal, by mail or by hand delivery.
