U.S. Military Deploys Avenger Short-Range Air Defense Systems Around Mar-a-Lago at Secret Service Request
Why It MattersLayered ground-based air defense near a high-profile South Florida site points to tighter low-altitude airspace security, which can mean added scrutiny for general and business aviation operating nearby.
The U.S. military has deployed short-range air defense systems around President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in South Florida. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and U.S. Northern Command confirmed the deployment last week, saying it was carried out at the request of the U.S. Secret Service.

The Humvee-mounted Avenger short-range air defense system is designed to protect ground forces and critical assets from low-altitude aerial threats. The Pentagon has not disclosed the cost of the deployment or whether any particular threat prompted the decision.
