Airforce Turbine Service Names Randy Mengel CEO and Isaias Gomez CFO Following McNally Capital Acquisition

Why It MattersThe leadership build-out signals how private-equity-backed MRO platforms consolidate single-engine-family expertise and pursue bolt-on acquisitions to broaden parts and repair coverage.

What happened

Airforce Turbine Service (ATS) has appointed Randy Mengel as chief executive officer and Isaias Gomez as chief financial officer, the company announced. The appointments follow McNally Capital's acquisition of ATS in December 2025. Mengel and Gomez will work alongside Executive Chairman Rob Wilson and ATS's existing leadership team to pursue organic growth and potential acquisitions aimed at broadening the company's engine maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities.

Mengel brings more than 35 years of aerospace and defense experience, including senior roles overseeing engine overhaul operations and MRO program expansion. Most recently he served as senior vice president of Regional One's Engine Division. Prior to that, he was chief operating officer of CTS Engines, where he launched GP7200 and F117 engine MRO programs supporting the Airbus A380 and C-17 Globemaster III, respectively. During that period he doubled revenue at the company's Maryville operations and led engine programs including the Rolls-Royce AE-1107 and AE-2100, which support the V-22 Osprey.

Gomez joins ATS with more than 25 years of financial leadership experience spanning aerospace, aviation MRO and international operations. Most recently he was CFO of Citadel Completions, where he supported corporate strategy, capital allocation and organic growth while helping scale VVIP aircraft interiors and MRO operations and participating in several strategic acquisitions. He previously held senior finance roles at AMETEK, including responsibility for an aerospace division encompassing 11 manufacturing and MRO facilities, and led finance for a $400 million division at Fairmount Santrol.

Wilson, a McNally Capital industry partner and former president of Business Aviation & General Aviation at Honeywell Aerospace, has served as ATS's interim CEO and executive chairman since the McNally Capital transaction closed. He will remain executive chairman and continue contributing to the company's strategic direction. ATS operates a PT6A center of excellence in Mathis, Texas, maintenance centers in Malaysia and South Africa, a sales office in Guatemala, and field support capabilities across the United States, Asia-Pacific, Africa and Latin America, and has more than 50 years of experience as a certified PT6A engine repair station. Its subsidiaries include Turbine Engine Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (TEMRO), which provides certified engine maintenance and aftermarket services from Johannesburg, South Africa.

Industry impact & what to watch

New ownership installing a dedicated CEO and CFO after a private-equity acquisition is a familiar step in aviation MRO consolidation: the buyer pairs an industry operator with a finance specialist to professionalize reporting and capital allocation before pursuing further deals. ATS's strategy centers on the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprop family, with plans to widen coverage across PT6 variants, bring more accessory, component and specialty repair work in-house, and extend reach to additional mature engine families through acquisition.

This pattern reflects how independent MRO platforms scale around a single-engine-family specialty before broadening into adjacent capabilities and alternative parts options. Mengel's background launching new MRO programs and Gomez's experience with strategic acquisitions at prior employers both point toward an operator built to integrate bolt-on targets rather than simply run existing sites.

What happens next will show up in which acquisition targets ATS announces, whether new maintenance locations are added beyond Texas, Malaysia and South Africa, and how quickly the company expands its accessory and component repair work in-house.
