Why It MattersRecognition of illegal-charter reporting by NBAA signals that unlawful charter operations remain a priority issue for business aviation, keeping on-demand compliance in the industry's public agenda.
Lee Ann Shay, Aviation Week's Washington-based executive editor for MRO and business aviation, has won the NBAA journalism award. It was announced at an Oct. 19 luncheon during the runup to this year's NBAA-BACE show.

The honor is presented to a single journalist each year for "excellent, accurate and insightful reporting on issues related to business aviation." Shay was recognized for her article "Waypoint: Clueless, Careless, or Criminal?", which examined the persistent challenges of illegal charter and the industry's efforts to ensure on-demand operations are conducted safely and in full compliance.
