Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport's Runway 11R/29L is set to resume operations on September 20 following the completion of a seven-month rehabilitation programme that began in February 2026.
The works, carried out by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), included runway resurfacing, permanent threshold displacement of runway 29L, construction of a new Rapid Exit Taxiway (RET Z1), upgrades to airfield ground lighting and navigation systems, pavement strengthening, and associated civil and electrical infrastructure improvements.
The runway has received all required inspections, validations and regulatory clearances. DIAL coordinated with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Air Traffic Control (ATC), airlines and other stakeholders throughout the project.
DIAL CEO Pradeep Panicker said the recommissioning of Runway 11R/29L marks "an important milestone in Delhi airport's continued journey towards building future-ready aviation infrastructure," adding that the upgraded runway and new taxiway would further strengthen the airport's capacity and resilience while supporting the country's growing aviation needs.
