Brussels Airport Expects Around 140 Flight Cancellations on Friday Due to National Strike
Why It MattersThe disruption highlights how ground-handling labour actions can ripple across multiple carriers at a single hub, affecting dozens of airlines simultaneously.
Brussels Airport expects approximately 140 flights to be cancelled on Friday due to a strike by employees of a ground-handling company, the airport operator announced Tuesday. Ground-handling company Alyzia, which provides services to around 20 airlines at Brussels Airport, will operate with reduced staffing as some employees join union-led protests against measures introduced by Belgium's federal government. The cancellations are expected to affect flights handled by Alyzia, including services operated by Brussels Airlines, the airport's main carrier.

The FGTB (ABVV) trade union is organising a national demonstration on Friday as part of ongoing protests against federal government policies. Beyond aviation, the industrial action is also expected to disrupt public transportation in Brussels, with disruptions anticipated across the STIB network.
