Honeywell Signs Three-Year APU MRO Deal with Garuda Indonesia, Cites Asia Growth Driven by Aircraft Life Extensions

Why It MattersThe deal reflects a broader Asia-Pacific trend of airlines extending existing aircraft lives and deferring fleet reinvestment, sustaining demand for APU and avionics MRO services.

Honeywell Aerospace has signed a three-year agreement with Garuda Indonesia for MRO services covering the airline's Honeywell 131-9B, 331-350 and 331-500 auxiliary power units. The 131-9B supports Garuda's Boeing 737-800 fleet, while the 331-350 and 331-500 serve its Airbus A330 and Boeing 777 fleets respectively. Aviation Week Fleet Discovery data shows Garuda operates 20 A330-200/-300s in service or storage, 48 737-800s and eight 777-300ERs, with the APUs to be serviced at Honeywell's Singapore facility, described as one of the company's largest APU overhaul sites globally.

Speaking at MRO Asia Pacific, Anthony Florian, president of Honeywell Aerospace Global Commercial Aftermarket, said regional demand is being driven partly by airlines choosing to extend the operational lives of existing aircraft, with some operators deferring reinvestment decisions by pushing through upcoming overhaul events. Honeywell is also supporting airlines and MRO providers in preparing for new maintenance requirements on the Airbus A350, A320neo and Boeing 777-9.

On avionics, Florian said Honeywell's avionics MRO business has largely been insulated from semiconductor supply pressures tied to AI-driven demand, noting that AI semiconductors differ significantly from those used in avionics. He said Honeywell began strategic supply-chain investments around 2022, including securing circuit-card manufacturing capabilities, which have helped reduce potential bottlenecks. Honeywell operates an avionics maintenance facility in Penang, Malaysia.
