Boom Supersonic to Hire 500 and Build Plant Near Centennial Airport to Make Natural Gas Turbines for Data Centers
Why It MattersA supersonic-aircraft developer is turning its engine technology toward non-aviation power markets, which shows how high-speed propulsion programs are looking beyond airline and business-jet customers for revenue.
Boom Supersonic has announced plans to hire 500 people and open a new manufacturing plant near Centennial Airport. The factory is not for the company's supersonic jets, which are expected to be used in commercial flights in 2030.

Instead, it will build Superpower, a 42-megawatt natural gas turbine that uses engine technology developed for supersonic aircraft. The turbines are intended to power data centers without relying on the electrical grid or water. Speaking at a news conference at the company's headquarters, CEO and founder Blake Scholl said the easiest way to overcome grid and water constraints was to build the power source on site.
