IER MRO Industries has appointed Group AMANA as general contractor for the construction of MRO4, an engine maintenance, repair and overhaul facility to be built at Dubai South (Mohammed bin Rashid Aerospace Hub, MBRAH). The appointment marks the start of construction for the 1.4 million sq ft development, which IER MRO describes as a highly automated, AI-native engine MRO operation incorporating robotics, digital twin technology, advanced manufacturing and integrated digital systems. Construction will be administered and supervised by Bureau of Engineering Studies Consulting Engineers (BEST), IER MRO's appointed engineer and consultant.

At full scale, the facility is designed to handle up to 550 engine shop visits or approximately 2,000 major engine module overhauls annually. It will include a twin engine test cell capable of conducting more than 1,000 engine tests per year and accommodating engines with thrust of up to 100,000 lb. The development will also house the IER Centre of Excellence and a dedicated aviation training academy. It will initially focus on the CFM56 and LEAP engine families, with future expansion planned in advanced manufacturing, component engineering, Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) development and additional aftermarket capabilities.

Lawrence J. Howie, Chairman and CEO of IER MRO Industries, said the appointment of Group AMANA represents "an important step in moving our vision into physical execution," describing the project as "a next-generation, highly automated and AI-native MRO operation in Dubai." Tariq Alawneh, General Manager of Group AMANA, said participation in the project reflects his team's capability to "deliver the high-tech, future-ready facilities that will power the UAE's MRO industry for the next generation." Group AMANA is described as a regional design-build company with more than three decades of experience and a track record of delivering over 1,500 industrial projects.
