NBAA Tax, Regulatory & Risk Management Conference Set for Oct. 18-19 in Las Vegas

Why It MattersAs tax policy, FAA rules and ownership structures grow more complex, business aviation's compliance specialists increasingly rely on dedicated forums to translate regulatory change into operational practice.

What happened

The National Business Aviation Association will hold its 2026 Tax, Regulatory & Risk Management Conference Oct. 18-19 at Encore Las Vegas, directly ahead of the NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE), set for Oct. 20-22. Nearly 300 attendees have already registered for the two-day conference, which is designed for attorneys, CPAs, financial advisors, CFOs and flight operations professionals.

Opening-day sessions will cover FAA regulatory fundamentals, personal use of aircraft, Standard Industry Fare Level (SIFL) reporting, depreciation, related-party transactions, federal excise tax for Part 91 operations, and international transactions and customs. The second day shifts to practical applications: fractional ownership and jet card programs, state tax hotspots, know-your-customer requirements, data security, insurance and aircraft-finance market conditions, and considerations for purchasing or selling aircraft or undergoing a change in company ownership.

NBAA General Counsel and Corporate Secretary Benjamin Schwalen said, "Business aviation transactions and operations require careful attention as regulations, tax policies and industry practices evolve. Attendees will have access to the industry's most knowledgeable professionals, along with new perspectives on longstanding challenges and practical guidance they can put to work within their own organizations." Registration for the conference includes complimentary admission to NBAA-BACE.

Industry impact & what to watch

Pairing a specialist tax and risk conference with the industry's largest convention reflects how business aviation handles regulatory complexity: legal, financial and operations professionals need dedicated time on subjects like SIFL reporting, federal excise tax and related-party transactions before the broader trade-show agenda takes over. The agenda itself, spanning FAA fundamentals through fractional ownership structures and aircraft-finance conditions, shows how tightly tax treatment, ownership structure and compliance obligations are linked in aircraft transactions.

Nearly 300 confirmed attendees ahead of the event signals sustained demand among CFOs, CPAs and attorneys for scenario-based guidance rather than generic updates, consistent with how this segment of the industry depends on practitioner-level detail to apply changing rules within individual organizations. What remains to be seen is how the specific sessions on state tax hotspots and know-your-customer requirements translate into guidance attendees carry into the following week's NBAA-BACE discussions on fleet and ownership decisions.
