Prima Air Receives FAA Part 145 Certification for Burbank Maintenance Facility

Why It MattersA charter and management company holding its own repair-station approval shows how operators are pulling maintenance in-house, tying fleet control, scheduling and shop capacity together instead of buying each from separate providers.

Prima Air, a US company based in Burbank, has received US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 145 certification for its maintenance facility at Burbank. The certification allows the company to provide maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for business aircraft.

The facility covers 50,000 square feet (4,645 square metres). It is approved to perform airframe maintenance on the G650ER, G550, GV, GIV and Global 5000, and to carry out maintenance on specified engine models.

Prima Air also offers private jet charter and aircraft management services. Its charter flights are operated under the Part 135 certificate of its subsidia

Industry impact & what to watch

Part 145 is the FAA approval that lets a repair station work on aircraft and return them to service for outside customers. For a company that already sells charter and management, holding that approval at its own base links three activities that are usually separate contracts: flying the aircraft, managing them, and maintaining them.

The approved airframe list is concentrated on large-cabin Gulfstream and Bombardier types, the G650ER, G550, GV, GIV and Global 5000. That tells the market which fleets the Burbank shop is cleared to serve, and it frames any later extension of the approval as a matter of adding types or engine models rather than starting over.

The practical test comes after certification: which of those types Prima Air actually books into the 50,000-square-foot shop, and whether outside owners and operators send work there alongside its own managed fleet.
