FAA Restricts Airspace Over Chillicothe and Columbus Area for Trump's Wednesday Visit to Shoemaker Center
Why It MattersPresidential-movement restrictions spread across a wide area with staggered windows show how VIP security airspace reshapes general and business aviation access around a regional airport for an entire day.
What happened
The Federal Aviation Administration has imposed temporary flight restrictions over Chillicothe and the Columbus area for Wednesday, October 28, while President Donald J. Trump visits the Shoemaker Center on the Ohio University Chillicothe campus.
The restrictions are set out in FAA NOTAM FDC 6/2268, issued October 26 and reported October 27 by J News Network. The notice cites "VIP movement" under 14 CFR 91.141 as the basis for the restrictions.
The notice creates six restriction areas, with windows running from Wednesday afternoon into late night. Airspace is restricted from the surface up to 17,999 feet.
Industry impact & what to watch
Temporary flight restrictions for presidential movements are a routine feature of the operating environment for general and business aviation. They are issued at short notice, tied to a single day, and carry a surface-to-17,999-foot vertical limit that closes out almost every operation below airline cruise altitudes within the affected areas.
A notice split into six areas with separate time windows is the kind of structure that makes planning for a trip in the region a matter of reading each area and window individually. Operators and flight departments with movements near Chillicothe or Columbus that day need to check their route, timing and airport against the NOTAM text itself.
The FAA's published NOTAM, FDC 6/2268, remains the controlling document, and any amendment to its areas or times would supersede secondary reporting of it.
