Easton Airport Closes Runway 4/22 From Oct. 29 to Dec. 18 for New Runway Construction
Why It MattersStaged closures that reopen for peak events show how general aviation airports with a single primary runway keep seasonal traffic flowing while rebuilding, and why long lead times shape local operating plans.
What happened
Construction on the new Runway 4/22 at Easton Airport is set to begin after more than 20 years of planning. Runway 4/22 will be closed from 8:00 AM on October 29 until 8:00 AM on December 18.
The runway will reopen for the Waterfowl Festival, held November 13-15, and for Thanksgiving weekends. Specific dates and times for those reopenings are to be coordinated and announced at least seven days in advance.
After reopening on December 18, Runway 4/22 will remain open until approximately February 2027, when it will close again for several months. Airport officials advise users to plan ahead for significant closures of the runway.
Industry impact & what to watch
A runway rebuild that spans several months and is split into separate closure windows is a common way for a general aviation airport to deliver a major capital project while keeping its busiest periods operational. Scheduling reopenings around a high-traffic event like the Waterfowl Festival and the Thanksgiving weekends reflects how airports weigh construction efficiency against peak demand for visiting aircraft.
For operators, flight departments and anyone basing or visiting aircraft at the field, the practical consequence is that availability becomes a calendar question rather than a fixed condition. Trip planning for the closure window depends on checking current notices before each flight, since the reopening dates and times will only be set at least seven days ahead.
The next milestones are the announcement of the festival and Thanksgiving reopening times, the December 18 reopening, and the second closure expected around February 2027.
