North Texas RTC to allocate USD 477,500 for eVTOL charging infrastructure at four airports

Why It MattersThe funding signals a broader push to build out ground infrastructure ahead of eVTOL commercial scaling, positioning North Texas airports to support advanced air mobility operations and attract related private investment.

The North Texas Regional Transportation Council (RTC) is providing USD 477,500 in funding to install electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) charging infrastructure at four airports in the region. Greenville Municipal Airport was awarded the maximum allocation of USD 200,000 for its project, while the three remaining airports will each receive USD 92,500 for charging infrastructure.

The RTC said the funding will expand the regional network of electric aircraft charging infrastructure and improve the ability of participating airports to support future eVTOL and other advanced air mobility operations. Ernest Huffman, program manager for aviation planning at the North Central Texas Council of Governments, said the investment is aimed at ensuring airports are ready before eVTOL operations begin to scale, noting that each added airport with charging capability gives operators more options for where they can fly and helps support the eVTOL Integration Pilot Program, the Center for Advanced Aviation Technologies, and the private investment expected to follow as the industry grows.

The RTC noted that the region's airport readiness initiatives are closely tied to the Center for Advanced Aviation Technologies, which aims to accelerate advanced air mobility implementation through strategic planning, infrastructure development, operational integration, and workforce development, positioning North Texas as a national hub for research, testing, and technology development in this sector.
