Bombardier Agrees to Acquire Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Aerostructures Plant in Mississauga, Ontario

Bombardier Inc. has agreed to acquire an aerostructures manufacturing plant in Mississauga, Ontario, currently owned by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). Financial terms of the private transaction have not been disclosed, and the sale is expected to close later in 2026.
The Mississauga facility manufactures wing assemblies, center fuselage sections, and flight control installations for Bombardier's Global 5500/6500 and Challenger 3500 aircraft. An adjacent 70,000-square-foot logistics center at the same site handles spare-parts support for legacy and current Bombardier aircraft, including the Challenger 300/350/3500 and various Global Express series jets. MHI will provide transitional support for an interim period following closing to assist in the transfer and ensure continuity for the plant's employees and the Mississauga operation.
Sandra Hodgkinson, Bombardier's Senior Vice President of Strategy and M&A, said the purchase "strengthens our manufacturing footprint, reinforces our supply chain and enhances our ability to meet sustained demand for our aircraft portfolio." David Murray, Executive Vice President of Manufacturing, Supply Chain Execution and Bombardier Operational Excellence, called the agreement "a key step in Bombardier's long-term growth strategy, strengthening critical capabilities, enhancing operational resilience and supporting the company's flexibility to meet growing customer demand."
Montreal-based Bombardier manufactured 157 business jets in 2025, a 7.5% increase over the prior year. The company and MHI have a prior relationship: in 2020, Bombardier sold its Canadair Regional Jet program to MHI for $550 million, a transaction that marked Bombardier's exit from commercial aviation manufacturing.
