AkzoNobel Opens Aerospace Coatings Facility in Chonburi, Thailand

AkzoNobel Aerospace Coatings officially opened a new colour-blending and distribution facility in Chonburi, Thailand, on 25 August 2026, expanding its support for the Asia-Pacific region. The site sits approximately 90 minutes from Bangkok International Airport, east of Pattaya, and will provide locally blended aerospace topcoats along with access to primers, thinners and curing solutions.

Guests at the opening ceremony toured the production floor, quality control laboratory and distribution facilities, and met members of AkzoNobel's local and regional teams. Marius Vasiliu, regional sales director for AkzoNobel Aerospace Coatings Asia Pacific, described the opening as "an important milestone" in supporting regional customers, adding that "customers can expect fast access to the products they need, backed by technical expertise and increased responsiveness for locally blended and stocked coatings solutions at the highest quality."

A coatings supplier standing up local blending and distribution rather than shipping from a distant plant is a common move once demand in a region reaches the scale that justifies dedicated stock and production. For commercial aviation operators, MROs and OEMs, coatings availability directly affects paint-shop scheduling, since topcoats, primers, thinners and curing solutions all need to be on hand before an aircraft goes into a paint bay.

The stated aim — shorter lead times and stronger technical and commercial support across the Asia-Pacific region — will be tested by how quickly MROs and operators in the region actually shift their sourcing toward the Chonburi facility rather than existing channels. Whether the site changes turnaround times in practice will show up in how regional paint shops describe scheduling and material availability going forward.
