NAV CANADA to Replace Wiarton CWO with AWOS Effective 29 October 2026

Why It MattersThe switch reflects a broader shift toward automated weather reporting infrastructure at smaller Canadian aerodromes, affecting how pilots access observation data.

NAV CANADA has announced that the Contract Weather Office (CWO) at Wiarton will be replaced by an Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS) to provide 24-hour weather observations. The change takes effect on 29 October 2026 at 0901 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

The AWOS installation will include a Voice Generator Sub-System (VGSS) and weather cameras. AWOS information will be broadcast via the VGSS on a VHF frequency, and weather camera images of the airport and surrounding area will be viewable on the NAV CANADA Aviation Weather Website. The 12–24 hour aerodrome forecast (TAF) remains in place, and aeronautical publications will be amended accordingly.
