Sift Brings SpaceX-Derived Test Data Platform to Heart Aerospace's X1 Electric Aircraft Program

California startup Sift is bringing test and operations infrastructure lessons from SpaceX to aviation, giving electric aircraft developer Heart Aerospace a unified platform for analyzing telemetry generated during ground and flight testing of its X1 demonstrator. Sift co-founder and CEO Austin Spiegel told Aviation Week that the platform supported Heart Aerospace through airframe, powertrain and actuator testing, preflight checks and high-speed taxi testing ahead of the X1's first flight in August. During the flight itself, Heart used the IADS flight-test system for personnel directly supporting the operation, while other observers used Sift to review telemetry in parallel, with flight data available in Sift immediately afterward.

Sift's platform replaces engineering workflows in which data is spread across files, databases and tools such as MATLAB and LabVIEW, letting engineers visualize telemetry, analyze test results and compare data across program stages, including structural load testing that applied loads to the X1's wings to simulate flight, takeoff and landing conditions. Spiegel declined to discuss specific findings but said consolidating ground and flight-test data lets engineers investigating a flight anomaly compare it against conditions from earlier tests, an approach drawing on his more than five years at SpaceX centralizing data from simulations, component tests, integrated vehicle testing and operations.

Spiegel said Sift also sees a role in aircraft certification, letting customers automatically evaluate test telemetry against defined limits and generate structured reports and strip charts as supporting compliance evidence for the FAA. The company is expanding the platform with artificial intelligence, having previewed a Model Complex Protocol server that lets engineers query telemetry and compare results across test runs, with a longer-term goal of enabling AI agents to assist with tasks such as root-cause analysis.
