Greece Activates UAV Flight Restrictions Over Kasos, Karpathos and Nearby Aegean Islands

Greece has activated Temporary Restricted Areas for unmanned aerial vehicles across parts of the southeastern Aegean, with measures taking effect on 16 September 2026 and running until 31 October 2026. The restrictions apply daily from 07:00 to 19:00 and generally cover airspace from ground level to 400 feet.
Six NOTAMs issued within the Athens FIR establish the restricted zones, which are centred on Karpathos and Kasos and extend to nearby islets including Saria and Armathia. The restricted areas include airspace near the airports on both islands as well as selected high ground on Karpathos.
The notices restrict most UAV operations within these zones. While the NOTAMs do not specifically name Turkish aircraft, the measures come amid reported increases in Turkish drone activity over the Aegean and form part of Greece's broader effort to monitor and control flights in sensitive national airspace.
