HDOT to Conduct Nightly Runway Closures at Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport Starting September 8

The Hawai'i Department of Transportation will carry out intermittent nightly runway closures at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu beginning September 8, tied to two infrastructure projects. Runway 4L-22R will close nightly from 10:00 p.m. between September 8 and October 26, followed by Runway 4R-22L closing nightly from 10:00 p.m. between October 26 and November 9. Runway 8L-26R will close nightly from 10:00 p.m. from September 8 to September 10, after which it will be shortened to 7,000 feet through November 13.
The closures support HDOT's Runway 8L Rehabilitation Phase 1 Project, which includes realigning runway lights and markings, and the Taxiway A Reconstruction Project, which involves environmental sampling. HDOT said either Runway 8L or Runway 4R will remain available for operations at all times, with aircraft using alternate runways 8R-26L, 4R-22L, and 4L-22R as needed. General aviation traffic may face extended delays due to rerouting and traffic management by the Hawai'i Air Traffic Control Facility.
The work window was set to begin after peak summer travel and end before the holiday season, though travelers may still experience delays during the affected periods. Additional closures and restrictions will be announced as they are scheduled.
