Federal officials imposed temporary flight restrictions on unmanned aerial vehicles across much of North Texas during President Trump's visit to Dallas for the Republican National Committee midterm convention, scheduled for September 9–10. The FAA banned all UAV flights within a three-mile radius of the American Airlines Center and at other locations where the president may be present, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the restrictions run from Tuesday through Friday.
Violating the restrictions is deemed illegal and dangerous. Unauthorized drone operators face confiscation of their aircraft, revocation of pilot certificates, and civil penalties of up to $75,000 per violation, while law enforcement agencies may pursue criminal penalties of up to $100,000 in fines and up to one year in federal prison.
