Azul Conecta Receives First Cessna SkyCourier, Registration PS-ENE, to Expand 19-Seat Turboprop Service in Brazil

Why It MattersThe deal gives Textron a chance to prove the SkyCourier's passenger appeal inside a major airline group's domestic network, a test case that could shape wider regional adoption of the type.

What happened

Brazilian carrier Azul's regional subsidiary Azul Conecta has received its first Cessna SkyCourier, a 19-seat turboprop registered PS-ENE, intended to supplement its existing network of smaller communities currently served by Cessna Grand Caravans. The aircraft entered Brazil through Boa Vista on September 26 and reached Brasília the following day; its next destination is Confins, where it will complete the regulatory steps required before carrying passengers.

Azul initially plans to operate just two SkyCouriers, positioning them to support rather than replace its existing Grand Caravan operation. Azul had expressed interest in an aircraft with up to 19 seats as early as 2022, with plans focused on northern Brazil, charter flights and dedicated operations, and confirmed the SkyCourier's selection in June this year. The type fills a capacity gap between Conecta's nine-seat Grand Caravans and larger regional aircraft, allowing more passengers per departure on routes with sufficient demand. No expansion beyond the initial pair has been announced.

The SkyCourier is most closely associated with FedEx, which ordered 50 units with options for 50 more and received the first example in May 2022 in freighter configuration accommodating three LD3 cargo containers. Textron delivered the first passenger-configured SkyCourier in 2023 for Lāna'i Air in Hawaii, with Air Marshall Islands and the Philippines' Leading Edge Air Services Corporation also receiving passenger examples. According to the General Aviation Manufacturers Association, Textron delivered 17 SkyCouriers in the first half of 2026, exceeding the 14 aircraft delivered across all of 2025 and more than doubling the five units handed over in the first half of that year. Total deliveries by configuration were six in 2022, 18 in 2023 and 13 in 2024, bringing the cumulative total to 68 by June 2026. Azul Conecta itself was the recipient of the 3,000th Cessna Caravan, a Grand Caravan EX whose delivery Textron announced in January 2023.

Industry impact & what to watch

Azul Conecta's approach — bringing in two SkyCouriers to run alongside, not instead of, its Grand Caravan fleet — reflects how regional carriers usually handle an unproven type: test it on a small scale against real route economics before committing further capital. That structure lets Azul gather its own data on costs, maintenance and route suitability without disrupting the network it already knows works.

For Textron, the placement matters beyond the two units involved. The SkyCourier's identity so far has been built mostly on cargo, through FedEx's large freighter order, with passenger use limited to smaller island and charter operators. A domestic airline group the size of Azul running the type gives the manufacturer a visible reference point for passenger-configuration sales elsewhere, at a moment when half-year deliveries have already overtaken all of 2025's output.

What happens next depends on the operating data Azul collects on these first two aircraft rather than on any stated targets: the carrier has not announced plans beyond the initial pair, so the regulatory clearance process at Confins and the early performance figures Azul eventually discloses will be the signals that indicate whether the SkyCourier expands within Conecta's network or stays a two-aircraft trial.
