What happened

Yemen's Ministry of Transport announced on Thursday that operations at Aden International Airport have resumed normally. The airport had been temporarily suspended after a Houthi missile attack on the facility on Wednesday evening.

Shortly before the attack, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree called on individuals inside the airport to evacuate immediately. He claimed that a Saudi military cargo aircraft carrying weapons was present at the facility.

According to a statement from the Yemeni military, two ballistic missiles struck the airport and several civilians were injured.

Industry impact & what to watch

Airports in active conflict zones tend to operate on a stop-and-restart cycle: service is suspended when a strike lands and restored once the site is judged usable, so a resumption announcement says little about how stable the following days will be. For airlines, handlers and charter planners, schedule reliability at such airports is a function of recent strike history rather than of the latest ministry notice.

The pre-strike evacuation call is the operationally significant detail. A public warning issued shortly before an attack leaves almost no window for crews, ground staff or passengers to act, which makes any aircraft or personnel on the ground at that moment directly exposed.

The Yemeni military's account of injuries and the Houthi claim about a cargo aircraft are separate statements from opposing parties, and the claim has not been confirmed by the airport or the ministry. Statements from the Ministry of Transport and the Yemeni military on damage, injuries and the status of flights are the next items that would settle what the suspension actually cost.
