North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers responded to a field off Roberts Lake Drive in Arden, North Carolina, at approximately 10:49 a.m. Saturday after a small privately owned plane crashed there. The Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as a Cirrus SR20 and said the crash occurred near Asheville Regional Airport.

Troopers said the aircraft experienced "some type of issue" and deployed its onboard parachute, which helped slow the plane before impact. The pilot and passenger were transported to Mission Hospital.
