Northern Jet Achieves IS-BAO Stage 1 Registration, Valid Through August 2028

Why It MattersLayering IS-BAO onto existing ARGUS Platinum and WYVERN Wingman PRO credentials shows how charter and management operators increasingly stack third-party safety audits to support international and transatlantic growth claims.

What happened

Northern Jet has obtained Stage 1 registration under the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO), developed by the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC). The registration was issued on August 31, 2026, and is valid through August 31, 2028. It followed an extensive preparation process and a three-day audit covering the company's flight operations, policies, procedures, and Safety Management System.

Northern Jet also holds ARGUS Platinum status and WYVERN Wingman PRO certification, with its Safety Management System assessed at SMS Level 4 under Wyvern's evaluation framework and compliant with FAA Part 5 requirements. Tim Reeve, Director of Safety at Northern Jet, said the registration "reflects the work our team has put into strengthening Northern Jet's systems, processes, safety practices and culture" and "validates that work against a respected global business aviation standard." Chris Bull, CEO of Northern Jet, said "IS-BAO registration strengthens the foundation behind our expanding international capabilities" as the company grows.

The registration comes after a period of fleet expansion. In July, Northern Jet announced the addition of its first Gulfstream G550, an ultra-long-range aircraft with an approximately 6,500-nautical-mile range capable of supporting transatlantic missions. The company operates aircraft across the light, midsize, super-midsize, and heavy jet categories. Headquartered in Orlando, Florida, with bases throughout Florida and the Midwest, Northern Jet has 31 years of experience and provides jet and helicopter charter, jet-card memberships, fractional ownership, and aircraft management services.

Industry impact & what to watch

Operators pursuing multiple independent safety audits at once is a recognizable move among charter and management companies trying to signal operational maturity to brokers, insurers, and corporate flight departments simultaneously. IS-BAO registration, ARGUS Platinum status, and WYVERN Wingman PRO certification each test different aspects of an operator's systems, so holding all three gives counterparties several independent reference points rather than a single audit to rely on.

This segment tends to pair safety-standard upgrades with fleet or network expansion, since international and long-range missions draw more scrutiny on an operator's SMS maturity and documented procedures. The addition of a Gulfstream G550 capable of transatlantic routes raises the operational complexity that an audited SMS is meant to address.

What happens at the Stage 2 and Stage 3 levels of IS-BAO, which Northern Jet has not yet referenced, would be the next marker of how far this registration effort extends before the current one expires in August 2028.
