The findings show that trust plays a central role in shaping passenger intentions: it significantly increases perceived usefulness while reducing perceived risk, and perceived risk in turn negatively affects perceived usefulness. Perceived usefulness emerged as the strongest predictor of passengers' intention to use AI-controlled flights, while perceived ease of use was found to have no significant functional role in the model. The researchers suggest this reflects a broader pattern in high-risk technologies that users have not directly experienced, where evaluations rely more heavily on trust and risk perception than on usability assessments.

The study concludes that trust is critical for societal acceptance of AI-based aviation, offering insights for aircraft developers, airlines, and policymakers as the industry moves toward greater automation, including potential single-pilot and fully autonomous commercial flight operations.
