Perth Airport Power Outage Halts Check-In and Departures, Disrupting Flights Across Australia
Why It MattersA single terminal power failure at a major regional gateway can ground outbound traffic for hours and ripple into domestic schedules nationwide, exposing how dependent airport operations are on one power supply.
A power outage at Perth Airport on 29 October affected terminal operations, including lighting, check-in facilities and flight information systems, and led to hours of disruption.

Outbound departures were grounded, and check-in and security screening were halted. Departure boards showed delays and cancellations building through the afternoon, with Qantas, Virgin Australia and Jetstar services among those affected. Staff used manual workarounds where possible.
Inbound flights could still land, but passenger and baggage flows were significantly slowed, and arriving travellers faced long queues.
